Wifi and LAN issues causing monumental frustration

    Hi all,

I'm very new to this forum but I am experiencing a problem that just wont go away!

I have an ASUS PX24 that I run as a media centre connected to my Sharp 42" TV.
It's running Windows 7 Home Premium
I have iiNET NakedDSL that runs through a Netgear DG834G wireless modem/router.
The computer is hardwired via a 3m LAN cable.

Until recently the whole setup had been running swimmingly. The computer, as I said, was hard wired and the wireless was used for phones/internet radios/laptops etc.

About 2 months ago something funny started happening. Almost every site returned a "400 malinformation or illegal request error." I couldn't connect to google, gmail, ebay, youtube. You name it, I couldn't connect to it. However, on the odd occasion it would work. But then it would start bringing up "cannot connect to host name, you forgot a separator ":" " type messages.

If it does work, it is extraordinarily slow to load anything. PINGs often time out of go missing, every page has bots of information missing that couldn't be loaded.

    I have tried
    1. Clearing cookies
    2. Flushing DNS with .BAT file from this website
    3. Using Google's 8.8.8.8 to resolve domain names for IPv4
    4. Turning off ITSAP and wan mini devices
    5. Reinstalling my Realtek PCIe ethernet drivers
    6. Changing LAN ports

    But nothing seems to work.

HOWEVER, the computer works flawlessly over Wifi (albeit slower)
This is my big issue, why does LAN not work but Wifi does?

I am so confused and frustrated
Thanks in advance for any help.

    Tom

Have you done a full scan with Malwarebytes and AV?

    Hi tnate,

What type of AV/Security of Anti-Virus software do you have installed?

Restart your computer and tap F8 then select Safe Mode with Networking. Are you able to browser without any issues here?

Also, pls. log on as a different User from your computer, create one if needed, are you able to replicate the issue?

    Please give us an update.

Once again thanks for the help.

I have done full scans with both AGV and Malwarebytes and no issues there.
My comp always runs AGV and Superantispyware anyway.

I'm currently running in safe mode but the same symptoms persist. I am getting 400/DNS errors running LAN but no problems running WIFI.
Did a quick speed test and LAN (5Mbps) was much slower with more jitter that WIFI (11Mbps).

I'll try logging in as a different user but I don't like my chances!

    Thanks once again.

Try running your system up and doing a repair install as long as you have an original installation disc. If you are not sure on this, here are the instructions:- Repair Install

Well thanks for all the help guys.
I had read the posts on 400 errors and I know that it is a DNS error but I cant work out what is causing it.

I have tried everything on your list of to-dos but to no avail (I didn't do a repair install, however, as apart from LAN everything else is fine.)

I think for the moment I will just live with the fact that my stupid computer and my stupid LAN port are in fact stupid.

If your wireless connection doesn't have any issues but just slow browsing, have you thought of replacing the network adapter, since they are very reasonable?
Just to verify, do you have the latest driver for the Realtek?

Yes I do have the latest version of Realtek. I have installed and uninstalled it may times.
I am unable to replace the network adapter on the motherboard because it is hard wired.
The router itself is working fine because if I use a my laptop hardwired to it it works flawlessly.

    Still completely confused!
