Networked Drives don't reconnect on reboot

I have two XP machines as well as my dual-booted (XP Pro SP3/ W7 RC 7100)
laptop - whenever I reboot my W7 system it fails to reconnect the mapped network drives.

    XP reconnects them without fail.

The only way I've found round it is to change the workgroup name, change it back and reboot - then it works.

This is VERY ANNOYING and such a basic problem - I've seen the problem all over the internet but no solutions.

Only MS could release an RC with such an obvious bug

No problem here on build 7100, mapped drive checked reconnect on logon entered in account name and password and good to go. This is with another win 7 machine though have not tried with XP yet.

This was a known issue in previous beta builds. It has been fixed in 7100, regardless of where the drive mappings are for. On your Win7 installation, was that an upgrade or did you do a clean install (delete partition, create partition, format, install)? MSFT has highly recommended that anyone going to the RC should do a clean format.

    Hi Apollo911,
Then I would suggest you disconnect the drive mappings on Win7. Reboot and then map them back supplying the reconnect option on each. If that doesn't work, then take a look at your firewall/antivirus software or any other software you have installed on Win7 that might be blocking the connections. Good luck.

Well.. it's just unpredictable.. I rebooted each..

machine 5 times, one connected them Ok twice, the other 4 times out of five.

They also periodically disappear with an 'unknown network problem'.

    Strange.

I only have the standard Windows firewalls and Avira free AV.. nothing that has ever interfered with networking.

    No...

it's absolutely fine XP to XP, but with 7 it is just hit and miss and drops out or refuses to connect sometimes.

When the network drives connect on boot and disappear later I get an 'unknown network problem' which expands to 'network path not found'.

If it was just on one laptop, I'd reinstall, if XP didn't work I'd figure it was the desktop causing the problem - maybe it is ?

    Same problem

I have the same problem about no reconnection after reboot but a slightly different hardware setup:

    Windows 7 Build: 7600
    Networkdrive: Synology DS-106j

I hope someone can present a easy fix :)
