open up a command prompt and type in ipconfig /release then after that ipconfig /renew. After that is done see how the connection performs after that..

I did that...well, it's a bit hard to see if it did anything, since the disconnections seem to happen at random and it's not the right time for my download speed to be terrible.
Well your download is going to depend on a lot of things, internet traffic, the site your downloading from ect.
It happened again a minute ago; I abruptly lost my internet connection, along with all network connection options.
Since this keeps happening at both home and work I would take it somewhere and see if the NIC is faulty.
I would take it in to a reputable computer repair place and have them do it. If it turns up bad and your computer is under warranty then I would have the manufacturer take the fall and replace the entire machine.
EDIT: Actually I would tell the company your issue and send it back or take it back before the warranty was void by someone you shouldn't be having this problem Dan.
