    Remote Desktop MMC Snap In

I've spent a fair amount of time this morning trying to get the remote desktop snap in working in Windows 7 but have not had any luck. For those interested in how the process worked in Vista see this link:

Galin Iliev [Galcho] Blog! - Remote Desktop MMC Snap-in in Windows Vista Trick

For some reason, this no longer works in Windows 7. I've also tried instructions from another blog which includes an additional .dll (mstsmhst.dll) but have so far been unable to register that particular .dll w/o error. I've also attempted to snag the .dll's and tsmmc.msc files from a Win2K8 server but have not had any luck getting it to work either.

Has anyone been able to figure out how to add the Remote Desktop snap in to MMC in the Windows 7 beta?

I've never seen this before, but as somebody that uses multiple remote desktops on a daily basis....I want it.

Would you not need to use the .dll's from Server 2008 R2 ?

I tried to take the files from a Win2K8 server. Unfortunately, copying them over to the \system32 directory and registering them didn't work.

There is also an app for doing something similar (and more full featured) from VisionApp that looks cool, but it also does not work under Windows 7.

OK here is what I did.

Downloaded and installed - Download details: Remote Server Administration Tools for Windows 7

Then in programs and features (control panel) added Remote Administration tools -> Role Admin tools --> Terminal services tools.

You sould now have the snapin in your admin tools folder.

Wow. I actually had downloaded that Remote Server Administration Tools already. I just had not thought to go and install the components of it as if it were an uninstalled feature. I did sort of wonder where it 'went' after installing it and not seeing any new options.

Great work - really well done!
