Unidentified Network (No Internet Access) Windows 7 Home Premium
Hi All
I was wondering if anyone could help me with an issue I'm having with my Windows 7 HP laptop. I've recently moved into student accommodation which requires us to register for the Internet (Studentcom), and when running on Windows 7 my laptop (HP G62-107SA) cannot find the internet connection.
I've tried a number of things to remedy this - disabling Avast Shields, running a Norton Removal Tool (Norton was pre-installed when I first got it but I installed Avast instead as I've never had any problems with it), disabling Windows Firewall as well as the netsh winsock reset command (and a few others - I've been trying since Saturday to no avail so it's no wonder I can't remember some of them!)
This problem isn't just confined to my laptop or my room either - my flatmate in the room upstairs has the same issue - the only way the two of us can get on the internet is by using an Ubuntu 10.10 disc, which is okay but we'd rather prefer to use Windows than have to keep booting up using a CD.
Also, the internet connection occasionally shows as connected (the little icon at the bottom comes up with 'Unidentified Network - Internet Access' generally about 10 minutes or so after we connect, but when we try to use Google Chrome or Internet Explorer to access the internet, we just get error messages (specifically Error 105 in Chrome).
Just to add - this is the second year I've stayed here, and I had no problems whatsoever with Keycom, our previous ISP here, and this is a wired internet connection.
Any help would be much appreciated! :)
