    Reformatted computer, abysmal connection

    Hello, I'm not sure how to go about troubleshooting my problem so I'll list some of the facts. I'm not sure what might be helpful to tell so I'll just list anything I think is relevant since I started having trouble. :)

    I reformatted my hard drive 3 weekends ago after getting a new SSD. I have my Windows 7 and Adobe CS5 installed on my SSD. Everything else is on my trusty, old hard drive. I don't use ANY pirated anything either, so please don't ask!

    When I re-formatted, I used an Ultimate Boot CD > Darik's Boot & Nuke. It took 15 hours! If there was anything naughty on there then I sure as heck was determined to get rid of it.

    Before I formatted I had the occasional internet hiccup (It's Comcastic!) but nothing to cry about. But now...I literally can't do anything I used to do.

    Downloading anything takes forever. There's constant hang-ups and time-outs.

    Also I love to play games online, but this problem is causing me nothing but headaches. I've been playing Fallout 3 lately and I'm constantly disconnected from Windows Live/Steam because my connection is so poor. I was also playing Titan Quest the other night with a friend and I kept dropping from the game because of this. It's beyond frustrating!

    If I want to watch a Youtube video then I HAVE to have the foresight to buffer for a good time before I want to actually enjoy it. This goes for Netflix as well, you can FORGET about watching anything on there... Last night I wanted to watch a video with a friend. It was 12 minutes long. It took me 15 minutes to buffer...at 240p. Pathetic right?

    Using Skype is virtually impossible now too. I keep getting slow connection speed errors/messages and my friend and I look like we're 8-bit characters. It's miserable!

    But the thing is...I swapped to Skype last night on my phone before bed to talk with my friend and the connection seemed absolutely fine. No hiccups or bumps or anything. And the picture seemed crisp as could be (well, as far as my iPhone 3gs can get anyway!)

    I keep getting "No internet access" errors when trying to connect to my router. My parents live across the street. Since I used to live with them I still have the code for their internet. I'm using it now because it works better than my connection in the living room. How sad is that?

    In an attempt to figure out what the issue is, I've...

    - Searched forums! Most everything I find points to Spyware/Malware/Viruses. I COULD re-format again this weekend but I don't see how it's possible that anything naughty clung to my hard drive after using Darik's Boot & Nuke 3 weekends ago;
    - Swapped out my Router, same undesirable result;
    - Reset Router and Modem, that didn't seem to change anything;
    - Run Memtest86, I did this test overnight, 8 hours later and there were 0 errors, so I know my Ram isn't the issue...

    I might be a bit ignorant when it comes to these things but I'm really at my wits end with this. It's been 3 weeks and I can't seem to figure out why my internet is so unreliable. And I did check on Comcast's website, I'm at 80% of the cap for this month. So I haven't gone over.

    I swapped back to my connection to try and get a Speedtest.net reading but I timed out each time after 5 minutes of trying to access that website. And well...I'm back on my parent's connection. Hurray?

    Any suggestions or advice would be immensely appreciated. Also, please let me know if you need any additional information from me. Thanks in advance!

    Sorry to hear of your issues. Several things come to mind Rosie...

    1. It isnt your Internet Connection/Router/Modem since you said that before you formatted it was "nothing to cry about".
    2. Can you send a screen shot of Device Manager?
    3. Im willing to bet that you may have an issue with an old or incorrect wireless adapter driver.

    Did you go to the Asus website and download the Windows 7 x64 drivers for your motherboard, and did you download all other drivers for your other hardware? It definitely sounds like you didn't install the drivers.

    Here is the Asus download page for all your drivers:
    ASUSTeK Computer Inc. -Support- Drivers and Download P7P55D-E PRO

    Start always with the chipset, then video... work your way down list from there.

    I also notice that according to the specs this mobo didnt include wireless, so what wireless adapter are you using? Make and model please...

    Darryl and kegobeer:

    Thank you both so much for the suggestions. I went ahead and reinstalled the latest drivers for both my wireless adapter and video card, both were already updated but I reinstalled them just to be safe.

    I was going to download a driver for my motherboard but I had no idea which I should grab. There were tons of options! I could use a little help with that please? I don't have any motherboard drivers currently installed.

    I also included the requested screenshot of my Device Manager:
    My Device Manager

    Please let me know if there's anything specific you want me to tab open there.

    Here is the wireless adapter I have:
    Rosewill.com - Networking, Networking, Wireless Networking, Wireless Adapter - N USB, RNX-N180UBE

    Let me know if there's anything else you need from me. Thanks!

    Your screenshot of Devive Manager shows an issue with the the USB controller which points to the chipset drivers... download those and then install, see if that goes away! The mobo chipset drivers are very important, and could be causing this issue!

    It's funny you should mention that because as soon as I finished re-installing drivers for my router and video card I had a pop-up suggestion for my "NEC USB3" driver.

    I went ahead and installed that, and everything seems to have been working fine ever since. I feel kind of foolish for having had overlooked something so obvious...Of course my mobo will have trouble recognizing certain USB devices if I don't have proper drivers installed! I installed the NEC USB3 driver on Tuesday evening and haven't had much trouble maintaining a steady connection since then.

    So...I've been watching Youtube/Netflix videos and playing Steam games again to my heart's desire, what more could a girl ask for? HURRAY!!
