hey Ken,
i am using a bt voyager and the bt home hub 2, have two desktops using the same wireless adapter.
dont know if this will help lol..
i can connect to the internet over wireless but have no local connection at all, when i run a cable between the computers it comes up unidentified public network and cant configure that to a home lan.
All the computers are running windows 7 build 7100.
the bt voyager is the wireless adapter that bt supply you with, its a bit old now but does the job pretty well. they are all running win 7. Ill try resetting the router will post when i have done that.
thanks
seems to have the same problems after resetting the router..
We have a little home network with computer firewall and six wired total 11 computers, we are all using win 7 64 bit, some with dual boots.
We tried all ways to enable homegroup, but it just kept coming up with problems, so my son set it up with the other options. like read only and no passwords.
We only did this because we all have very good firewall because doing these options would be risky without a decent firewall.
Now it's fine we can all share what we want. It's nice to see all the computers in the work group
They do have a wireless set up not homegroup which is used mainly for their laptops.
Our main net work is the wired set up.
I hope you get it sorted, it can be very frustrating, when things don't work as well as we want them to.
Sandy.
maybe you could try to do some troubleshooting so we can find out what's going on...
1.open up a command prompt on each PC and type the "hostname" to find out the hostname, and type ipconfig to get the IP address. now try and ping , between the computers, if you are able to ping then you should be able to use file sharing as long as it's not disabled...
2. if one of the computers's hostname is computera and ip address 192.168.1.102, to test file sharing open a different computer , click on start and then in the search/run bar, type "\\computera" or "\\192.168.1.102" this should open the shared folders on that particular computer.
see if this works... hope this helps you..
