    DNS on Wireless Adapter

Up until yesterday my new Dell Vostro 1720 Laptop with Windows 7 Professional was working perfectly. I have had the laptop almost 4 months and through the day it connects via LAN and on an evening via WIRELESS with no issues at any point getting onto the internet.

Yesterday something happened. I've no idea what, as far as I'm aware no updates were installed and no new software.

In work yesterday I was working on LAN fine, last night I went home and I was unable to get onto the internet. I have 2 other machines and a pS3 which were all working fine. I have a little yellow exclamation mark over my wirless connection saying no internet access.

It does get an IP and I can ping my router fine. But when I search via name it fails. I know its something to do with the DNS, but not sure what. When I came into work today i tried connecting to wireless here and the same happens. Exactly same I can ping ip of dns server and everything internally but unable to connect to them by name.

I have reinstalled the network adapter, reset and flushed dns. Put it on a static but all fails. Im now at a loose end and could really do with any advise.

    Thanks in Advance.

See if flushdn help clear the cache.

    c:\>ipconfig /flushdns

My bad about the flush dns, i need glasses. The fact that it has been working till now and you said you weren't aware of any changes to your system got me abit. Further more your other macihnes and PS3 connect fine to this network.

Are you able to provide details of the problem machine's ipconfig/ all, and same for the machine which is working fine?

    Hi,

Thanks for your help, i basically badgered at it last night. I eventually rolled back to a system restore to 4pm the afternoon before it started which means it only leaves 1 and half hours for what ever happened to happen and it worked. Job done. Looks like a automatic windows update may have caused it. Although I installed all the updates last night and it was still running afterwards.

    Its a total mystery.

    Exactly the same here

Hi, I've got exactly the same issue on my laptop.

My wifi adapter receives a proper ip configuration from dhcp. I can ping on all ip-addresses (even external) but cannot resolve any external names via dns lookup....

When I only connect though my wired adapter everthing works great without any issues.....

Has anyone a proper resolution? Somehow something is wrong with DNS and I cannot figure out what....
    Thanks in advance!

Uppdate: I'm now using my old netgear pcmcia card to get wifi connection. It works, but it's not really the way it should work...

Check the ipv4 properties and ensure that the DNS setting is set to obtain automatically.
