    Windows 7 x64 WiFi Issue.

I've been using Windows 7 x64 RTM for about a week now, and all I can say is: ARGHHHH!!!

Sleep/Hybrid/Hibernation always screws up my WiFi connections, when I wake it from Sleep, my connection ALWAYS drops and attempts to reconnect, then I force it to connect and it either doesn't or connects then drops and reconnects over and over and over again, then I have to manually disable the adapter and renable it to connect 100% and STAY connected until it goes to Sleep.

I start the computer FRESH from power button and my connection is either, remembered, or the Configure settings forgets that I checked the "Connect automatically when this network is in range". So I'm forced to manually connect upon startup.

I've tried both official Atheros driver for Vista x64 and the Windows provided Atheros driver from June 2009 for 7. They both do the same crap.

I really hope Microsoft gets something out to fix this...

Do you have more than one computer on your network?
If so, it could be that they are competing for the same IP address.
Set the IP to a fixed address you're sure is free.

Also, check if it isn't trying to connect to your neighbor's network.
Happens sometimes if your neighbor's output is higher than your own.
You can solve this by making your own network the preferred or only one it can connect to.

In the powercfg, disable the hybrid.

Make sure in the Bios only S3 standby is enabled not S1 or S1+S3.

If none of these solutions work, post back.

edit: You can also try to change the transmit channel of your router. It has 13 channels.
If your neighbor uses the same channel, they might interfere.

I am on a network but both XP and 7 are on a fixed IP (ie. 192.168.X.X) and I use OpenDNS, never had problems with them.

My network name is saved as preferred and I have never had issues with connection trying to go to a neighbors before.

I have disabled Sleep/Hybrid and Hibernation for all Power Settings and sometimes...the computer STILL Sleeps.....or Hibernates out of nowhere.

My BIOS doesn't offer anything other than drive configurations and basic useless stuff, since it's HP laptop.

    Ok.
Where is your laptop and where is your wireless router?
how far apart and are there walls or ceiling in between?

Try to changing the transmit channel of the router. It has 13 channels.
If neighbors use the same channel it can seriously interfere with yours.
try a few out and check reception each time to find out the best one.

Further more: do you use windows firewall or 3rd party? and which one?

Is your wireless card internal or usb antenna?

In Device Manager, uninstall the Battery. Scan for hardware change and let Windows re-install the driver.

My laptop is in bedroom on desk in corner of room, router is on desk in 2nd bedroom on side of this room with bathroom inbetween, so 2 walls. I never had this problem running XP or Vista on the same laptop in same position, I have my router set up in same settings as on Vista and XP and no problems then.

I use Windows Firewall, and again on Vista,I used Windows Firewall as well, since I learned any 3rd party AV/Firewall is garbage and bogs performance down.

    Ok.

In energy scheme have you set the wireless adapter to maximum power for both battery as AC?

Yep, I'm running High Performance power scheme, the only settings I have adjusted are Sleep/Hibernate options.

Setting high power isn't guaranteed to set the wireless on max for battery and ac.

Maky shure you check it under advanced settings.
