How to stop Windows 7 from searching for an Internet Connection

Hello,

I am trying to configure my new Dell XPS9100 computer:

Windows 7 64 Bit Professional.
The computer will be used to run a "Virtual Organ".


On boot-up, I get this message---- " You are not connected. It appears that you're not connected to the internet. Check your internet connection and then try again."

This computer will never be connected to the internet and I would like to stop Windows 7 from wasting CPU resources in searching for a connection. Also, I don't wan't to have to delete this warning message on boot-up every time.

Any ideas on how to stop Windows 7 from looking for the internet?

Uninstall your network adapters in device manager.

That's right! Disabling the network adapters will do the job.

You can either disable in BIOS or in Windows Device Manager.

Thanks for your replies. Disabling the Network Adapter did not stop Windows 7 from searching for a network connection on boot up and then warning that it didn't find it. Any other suggestions?

I would check in msconfig and see if there is something that is being loaded at startup that wants a connection to the internet. That something is probably a program that checks to see if there are updates available for one of your installed programs. For instance, Adobe Reader, it will run at startup to check for updates.

Another thing to check is whether Windows Updates is configured to automatically check for updates.

Bingo ! I turned off Windows Updates (changed to never) and unchecked several programs in MSCONFIG/startup that were not needed-----problem solved.
