Slow file copying from Win 7 PC to other network PCs

I have a modest home network with two Windows 7 PCs and one Windows XP PC connected via a D-Link DIR-655 router. The XP machine and one of the 7 machines are connected to the router via gigabit ethernet ports, and the other PC by a wifi card. Internet download/upload speeds on the two wired machines are around 30Mbps/6Mbps, and around 5Mbps/5Mbps on the wireless box.

I noticed when I built my first Win 7 machine that copying files from the Win 7 box to the XP box was abnormally slow when the transfer was initiated from the Win 7 machine, but snappy when the transfer was initiated from the XP machine. I chalked that up to incompatibility between the two OS's, and didn't give much more thought to it.

I built my second Win 7 machine a few weeks ago, and was surprised to discover the same slow push/fast pull problem when copying files to and from the Windows 7 machines. Disabling and enabling various settings on the new machine's Realtek PCIe GBE Family Ethernet Controller haven't fixed the problem, and I've exhausted most of the supposed "fixes" I found on the net.

When I say "slow" copying speeds, I'm talking 500Kbps on machines equipped with gigabit ethernet NICs. Anyone know how I can fix this?

Well, I might have just answered my own question. On a lark, I decided to uncheck the "Enable behavior monitoring" option in Microsoft Security Essentials on the receiving machine, and the "push" transfer rate to my Win 7 wifi machine tripled to 1.5 MB/s. I also decided to check the "Link Layer Topology" boxes, the Realtek Teaming Protocol Driver box, and the Realtek Vlan Protocol Driver box in Local Area Connection Properties for the sending machine's Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller, and that added another 500KB/s for a total transfer rate of around 2MB/s.

I'm going to test these changes on my wired gigabit XP machine next and see what happens.

    Edit: Problem solved.
