Hit by Virus: erased some path(s) and messes with internet connectivit

I got hit by a weird virus recently that I'm still trying to clear things up... AVG didn't stop it

Anyway, maybe someone can give me a few tips/places to check to fix things back to normal.
All I have to work with is that it deleted "C:\Windows;" and "C:\Windows\system32" from my path variables--which made it difficult to check my ipconfig

I noticed that I had a problem when I started getting intermittent connectivity on my router. my cell-phone could get a perfect wireless connection and worked very speedily. My computer however kept disconnecting (it would say it was connected to the wireless network but I'd try to go into the router menu from my browser and it would clock for 5 min before giving up--the same thing goes for when I would try to go on a website). Occasionally, I'd randomly get internet again to load one page, but that was it.

Anyway, I figured the path thing out and now it doesn't do it as much but it still has trouble loading my homepage with ease (I'm using Chrome and I have yahoo as my homepage if the details are necessary) Going to google has the same trouble. And what I mean is...it loads it very slowly but it claims it is still clocking even though everything on the page is loaded and it says "waiting for www.google.com" &c.

Should I try to reinstall my browser? is there something I can download that can help with this? Should I double check to make sure AVG is working? What else can/should I do?

It wont have deleted your Windows folder or you wont be able to boot to Windows. What a lot of the modern viruses do is write the 'hide' attribute to the folders and files on your PC so that you cant use windows properly or use programs.

In this situation it is normally easier to re-install the OS.

If you would like to try and resolve it without a re-install then I would first un-hide the as many folders within the Crive as possible. Then try and go back to a working state by using System Restore. If this works, when the System is restored download Malwarebytes and run a full System Scan to make sure that the threat is gone.

I really would just re-install though as long as you have a backup of your data.

@Dave Sorry, I was probably not being clear: it deleted the path references not the folders themselves...

Everything works fine except for the fact that ever since I got the virus, browsing the internet is super annoying because its like it postpones for 5 min before giving a burst of data (i.e. 5 min pass and then poof the page loads in a couple miliseconds). It's like it's toying with me lol

Run a Malwsrebyes scan anyway. I personally dont rate AVG, its let me down in the past.

I would suggest that you check your proxy settings in Internet Exploer

Click the Cog icon in the top right - Or tools if in an older version, and click Internet options, click the connections tab and then LAN Settings. See if a proxy is specified. If it is remove it.

If this doesnt work then download and re-install Inernet Explorer. Also, download another browser as well (Google Chrome or Firefox are good) and see if it happens in those browsers.
