"Enter Network Password" Windows Security error.

I am on my Laptop trying to connect to my iMac. It does show up under Network, but when I click it, I get this error. I typed in my Laptop username and password, but it rejects it.

    What can I do?

    Thank you.

Go to your mac and setup your advanced sharing, set it to no password and share the folders you want to access.

Thanks for the quick reply! Do you have more elaborate instructions?

I have followed these instructions exactly, but I typed in the name and password for the Mac and it didn't work.

I don't use a Mac so I can't really be more specific, but turning off password sharing makes it easier to share files on your home network.

I didn't see an option to turn it off. But when that dialog box pops up, isn't the domain supposed to say IMAC instead of LAPTOP? Because it wants the password for the iMac account, not my Laptop's. Correct?

    Hello,

Thats the computer name, and yes it does want to say IMAC if that is the name of the Mac PC.

Another way to get round it would be to create a new user on the MAC PC with an identical username and password. This wouldnt then show a login prompt - At least thats how it works on Windows...

Ok. So how do I get the domain name to change to IMAC if that's what it is looking for?

It will be looking for the computer name. Just click the other user account button and type in the full name. I.e. IMAC\User

Did this ever get resolved? I have exactly the same problem and didn't really understand the solutions suggested here.
