Connected to network but no internet access?

    Hey there,

I'm running windows 7 64 bit and I'm having a strange internet issue. This has happened to me before and I've only been able to solve by doing a system restore but I figure there has got to be a much better way to solve this problem.
In the bottom right hand corner beside the clock there is a little icon that resembles a little monitor (I'm no brilliant tech person so a lot of this is going to sound stupid probably) right now it shows a little yellow triangle with an exclamation point in it. When I hover over it with my mouse it says Network Connected and then No Internet Access. This is where it gets strange. I am able to connect to pretty much any website when I open my browser.
Now I like to play online games and I recently got BF3. And as some of you may know you need to go through "Origin" in order to play it. Well when I connect to the Origin "library" it tells me I'm offline and basically tells me I won't be able to play multiplayer. But as I said earlier I am able to access the internet for the most part. This issue has been happening well before I got BF3 too.
So I've done everything I can possibly think of. I've emptied my cache, cookies, etc. I have also done the "IPCONFIG/ ALL" thing. Rebooted the modem and the computer. done any system updates. I have also turned my firewall off briefly and tried that. It only seems to work when I do a System Restore and I really don't want to be doing that every time I have this problem. I have troubleshooted it as well.
I hope someone has an answer to this problem for me! This problem has really started to annoy me. Thanks!

    Welcome to Seven Forums Terryl!

There are no stupid questions here! I'm wondering if you might be having a problem with your driver.

If you open the start menu by clicking the button and type "device manager" without the quotation marks then press enter, the Device Manager window should open and a list of object categories should be displayed in a list. Look through the list to be sure none have red X's or Yellow Triangles over their icon. It would likely be under the heading Network Adapters. Please include in your reply anything marked with one of these symbols.

Do you have a Petty good idea of when it started occurring (the most recent time, NOT before the restore point you used)?

    You also say that :
I am able to connect to pretty much any website when I open my browser.
Can you clarify the Pretty much part? Does it seem to be working like normal or is there a definite change where it intermittently does not connect "More Than Usual?"

    Thanks,
    Mike

I wouldn't think it would be a hardware issue, as like Tarry said it can connect.
It would more probably be a config issue with either the router, or the nic. Im going to go with its either the default gateway, or DNS.

    Tarry,
Double check that both your Default Gateway and DNS of your network adapter, are addressed to your router.

    Tarryl,

We didn't suggest trying anything, just asked a few questions.

I hope it turned out positive for you, let us know if you get everything back up and going again!

    Thanks,
    Mike :)

    oh okay.
Well HP worked on my computer but they ended up messing up and i ended up having to reload windows entirely on it. so started from a fresh slate. after doing that, there were no problems for the whole rest of the week... until yesterday when the notification popped up there again.

I have the same problem but i'm in a hotel room so i can't access to router but luckily i have 3 other connections that i can connect. But i checked internet for solution and there are quite a few people having the same problem like us using HP just wanted you to know. The only solution i found in internet didn't work for me but maybe it can work for you. When you go to ''manage network adapters'' there must be another adapter appeared named ''microsoft virtual adapter''. Try to disable it then disable your real adapter and reconnect i hope it works for you. In my first days of buying my HP laptop everything was fine but when that adapter appeared it started to say ''no internet connection''.

Well finally got it all figured out. We got a non-outsourced technician so to speak to help us and he fixed the problem in 20 minutes. apparently the first dns flush i did didn't work properly, must have mistyped something but that's all that needed to be done. Thanks for all your help guys!

    similiar problem

sorry for using this old thread, but this gotta be the closest to my problem:

similiar to Tarryl, sometimes i am "connected to the net yet not" as i call it, but for me it's like this:
i can do pretty much everything for like 5-10 minutes, after that the net crashes, and if i am playing a online game with some friends nothing happens, and i can talk with them on Skype, no problems, but if i try to open a new online game or a webpage, it says i'm not connected to the internet. this isn't a problem occuring everyday, but when it does occur it's insanely frustrating.

"and if i am playing a online game with some friends nothing happens" i doesn't get disconnected, i doesn't lagg anything, it's like the net doesn't have any problems with online games i'm already playing, hope someone understands...cuz i do not
