    Hello alexm,

If you have already have a Cable subscribed from your ISP, you've mentioned Belkin wireless router you will only need to get a Wireless Network Card for your desktop. Here's a variety of selections.

    Hope this helps.

Why would he need a wireless card if he already has a wired connection to the router?

Also, what is meant by "Install Internet cable"? Is this to use Netflix or similar service or maybe a Roku box? If so the device will connect to the router wirelessly then access the desktop hard drive via it's existing wired connection. That will all be setup when you install the device.

Wouldn;t the desktop need a wireless adapter to connect to other wireless goodies and gadgets?
Your title says xp wireless adapter, is one or more machine running Windows XP?

No, the other wireless devices connect to the router, not directly to the desktop.

So as 2xg said the desktop would need a wireless adapter to allow wireless devices to communicate with it? The Wireless devices won't work throught the wire.

They should be able to access the wired desktop through the router. This is how the Roku box I installed for my brother worked.

Just to clarify and avoid any confusions, I have only added the Wi-Fi card so that OP can use the desktop just in case he wants the desktop to wireless connect to the router. Mind you, Title of the Thread is
'xp wireless adaptor' and also this 'what hardware will I need or method to accomplice this ???'

This is not also very clear. Now, we don't know he wants file sharing, perhaps ICS?
I also have a desktop computer hardwired to the same router.
I will need to connect wirelessly to the desktop hard drive.
I think it's best to wait for the OP to clarify things out.
