Er...no. Neither the dongle nor the driver software was in place.

Clean boot didn't solve the problem .... when you boot normally you should be back to where you started. Nothing has changed!

I would have thought so, but clearly this isn't so in this case. In Network I now have Computer (1) AA and Media Devices (1) AA Jim. I've never seen the latter in Network before. AA is the machine name of the Win-7 machine we're talking about; Jim is the user/admin.

Double-clicking on the Computer (1) icon gives an error "\\AA is not accessible. You may not have permission etc... The specified network provider name is invalid".

Neither of the other two XP machines on the network are present in Win-7's Network.

These other two machines can, however, access shared folders on the Win-7 machine, but not the other way round !!

The workgroup name, WORKGROUP, and is recognised but cannot be accessed from the Win-7 machine.

network center .... is the current network a public or private one?

Any Security or Firewall Software installed from all of your computers? Disable them for now if you do.

Can you ping the Win7 computer? From the XP computer Open a command prompt and type ping IP Address of the win7 computer, for ex. ping 192.168.1.10 then press enter. Of course, yours will be different.

All irrelevant now I'm afraid. I installed an Easeus image taken last month which took care of the ethernet network problem, but trying the wireless setup again gives the same result: Windows can't find the wireless modem/router.

Possibly the driver isn't compatible with Windows-7 64-bit? It's fine in XP.

Log on to Safe Mode with Networking (restart your computer, tap F8 and select this option), disable any AV or Security Software uninstall the Device from Device Manager then install the updated driver.

Please post an ipconfig /all output after.
