Hi Carlos,
In addition, please try this:
Click on the Start Orb Control Panel\System and Security\Windows Firewall\Allowed Programs
Make sure that File and Printer Sharing check box has a check mark, and then click OK.
Now, see if the Computer Browser Service has started.
An update will be nice.
Thank you for helping me but I can't even open Windows FIrewall, when I click use recomended settings it says eroor 0x80070424
I've already solved this problem by editing some permissions on the registry and now I can start COmputer Browser but now the problem is in the Network folder!! When I click the folder it just will start loading but never finish unless I restart my computer
Thank You very much for your help!
Good job on starting the Browser service.
Did you setup a Homegroup?

If you have a Security or Firewall Software, pls. disable it for now. If you are using Windows built-in Firewall, make sure to exclude File and Printer sharing.
In addition to the link please create the same UserName and Password on both computers.
Alternatively, try accessing the shared folder od Drive this way:
Click on the Windows Orb, type \\ComputerName\SharedFolderName press enter, also the Computer Name can be replaced by an IP Address.
I've set up a workgroup or domain because my computer is the only one running Windows 7 in home and the other computers are running Windows XP Home, Windows XP Professional and Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005.
I have Trend Micro Titanium Antivirus+ and I don't know if it has a firewall but what I Know is that I'm only using the Windows Firewall.
That way will work when Computer Browser it's not started???
Thanks Again for your help
Hi Carlos.
Could you please tell me what settings you changed in the registry to get your computer browser service running again? I am having the same issue on windows 7 x64 and it's having all sorts of problems like not being able to share files and i notice i cant run windows defender or firewall services either. Not sure what the root cause of all this is as i can find little information about any of this and my system seems clean of any viruses or malware and has been all along ( unless my scanners missed something ).
Thanks.
Hi,
To start the firewall and defender do the following things:
Go to regedit
The download both registry files bfe.reg and firewall.reg
Launch and import them to the registry
If the downloaded files opens as notepad
Rename the files from
bfe.reg.txt to bfe.reg
firewall.reg.txt to firewall.reg
Launch the registry file, click YES when you receive UAC prompt
Restart your PC
Now,open RUN and type
regedit and click ok
go to
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\services\BFE
Right click on it-permissions
Click on ADD and type
Everyone and click ok
Now Click on Everyone
Below you have permission for users
Select full control and click ok
Now,open RUN and type
services.msc and click ok
start base filtering engine service and then windows firewall service
Modifying the REGISTRY settings incorrectly can cause very serious problems that may prevent your computer from booting correctly.
Note: I follwoed those stpes and now I can use recommended settings and use firewall but now still I can't open windows defender. Error 0x80070424 (the same with windows firewall) the specified service dowsn't exist as an intalled service so really don't know if that will fix the defender too but the firewall I guarantee you it will start working again.
What type of Windows are you using?? (ex. Windows 7 Home Premium x64)
Thanks for joining Windows 7 Forums hope you fix all your problems.
An update will be nice

Thanks, whilst looking into this issue i found this thread:
Cannot start Computer Browser service after malware removal
It's very indepth on these issues, I was already clean etc. from the scannign steps so of improtant use was the registry steps very similar to the ones you posted though there seems to be some extra registry files to merge there as well as even more within the zip file it directs you towards.
It fixed my problem with not being able to share drives whic hwas my main issue and the computer browser service is now running. I checked the firewall briefly and it seemed I ahd the ability to start it again without it telling me it wasn't installed etc. but I use comodo so I didn't go ahead and start it. Never checked defender either as I use mbam and avira so not sure if that's running or able to be run or not. I'll try remember to take a look when I get home and let you know but those extra steps on that thread may be of use to you and help you solve your extra problem or at least direct you to someone who seems quite clused up on the issue.
Thanks.
