    What security settings?

I'm running Windows 7 HP 64 bit and two other laptops off a Linksys 354 router. I currently have in the Security tab 'No authentication (open), WEP and key index 1. I'm not sure if these settings are correct or good even as I don't know what all the other options are other than the 'No authentication' currently set. I think this was a default setting perhaps?

    Thanks.

You should set it to WPA2-PSK. It's more secure than WEP.

I didn't say, but my router is a 'G' not an 'N' but I will see if I can change it to WPA2-PSK.

    Thanks.

WPA-PSK and WPA2-PSK are more or less equally secure provided you use a strong password. Neither are vulnerable enough that any likely attacker will be able to break into a network protected by a password of random characters generated by a tool such as GRC's strong password generator.

Definately prefer WPA 2 though. WPA (1) has just recently had another attack on it. While not devastating, there is no reason to use it assuming all your devices can do WPA2 and unless it's something really old, they all should.

And I'd add that WPA 2 is going to help speeds, it's faster than WEP from what I understand, and if you have the option select "AES" along with WPA 2

Thank you, I need to sit quietly somewhere and sort this out. It seems whenever I alter the router something goes wrong!
