Short and long name of domain and web search!

    Hi everyone,

I would like to create a domain with a long name, say "I like windows seven forum" (www.ilikewindowsevenforum.com).
Is it possible to create it by its acronym (i.e www.ilwsf.com) while keeping it searchable by its full name, parts of it, or another assigned name?
I mean if I create the website www.ilwsf.com, will it be possible to find it in google when somebody searches its full name "I like windows seven forum" or parts of it or for example "greenbird" as an assigned name?
Inversely, if I have a domain with full name, will it be possible to find it when searching its acronym?

Is this a matter of keywords that we could provide when registering the domain to facilitate search and referencing?

    Thank you

None of your questions have to do with Windows. Try the Webhostingtalk.com forum.

    Thanks solidwave!

I subscribed and tried to post my question in the forum you talk about but my posts do not appear!
I don't know if it is a "very special forum" or I miss the trick!

I hope that an expert passes by here and could answer my question.

    YES, to both your questions.

It depends on the META KEYWORDS, TITLE and DESCRIPTION on your web pages. This is what Google or any other search engine will pick up on and bring up, when you search for the site.

That said, carefully think about what most users would prefer to access your site, the full name or the acronym. Once registered, there's not much you can do.

^ Agreed. How well the short name of your website will perform in a Google search result is debatable and complex. IMO, use a succinct domain name. One that is descriptive and short. I don't think I'd use an abbreviation if search engine ranking was a big consideration.

If someone searches for "Windows Seven forum", Google will place more weight on the domain name *SevenForum* than ILWSF.com, which will make SevenForum.com more likely to appear at the top of the search result list than ILWSF. There is much more to it, but a good domain name is the start. Reading up on Website SEO to get a better understanding.
