Odd remote desktop issue - closes after conifguring?

    Greetings,

I'm having issues with Remote Desktop. I've tried multiple systems and the same thing happens. My home computer has remote desktop enabled, ports forwarded, etc. On the computer I'm using to connect, I enter remote desktop and fill out credentials, accept certificate, etc. When it goes to "configuring desktop" the session acts like it's going to start but closes without opening the desktop. No error is given, nothing.

I've tried this using different connections, the local network, and different systems. No matter what I can't get it to take.

Any ideas what's going on or how I should go about troubleshooting this?

    EDIT:

Ran SFC, CHKDSK, and Super Antispyware

Now it's working, betting SFC found something corrupt . . .

    EDIT EDIT:

I think I found the culprit. After running the scans I only remoted after a reboot and it worked. Booting firefox prevented RD from working again and would require a reboot to fix. After disabling all add-ons and plugins this did not occur. Going through one by one I found Adobe Flash to start this issue. By uninstalling and reinstalling Adobe Flash the issue no longer seems to occur - though I'll be going through the rest of the plugins eventually.

Hopefully this is of use to someone else in the future . . .

I've been having the EXACT same problem. If this works you have many karma points coming your way! I recently upgraded to Win7 Pro at home and have been unable to use RDP since. I've been reading forums for days and trying many many different things.

What's strange is RDP works fine on the LAN. I can even use Mocha Lite RDP on my iphone to connect to the machine over ATT 3G. But when I connect from work using an Win7 Pro 64bit box it will drop the connection exactly as you described. If I dial back the resolution to 800x600 with 16bit color, I will actually see my screen for about 5 seconds before it terminates the connection w/o an error message.

BTW, if anyone else can confirm they've heard of this issue or can link any other related information that would be great. I hope this works... I was beginning to think it was a GeForce video card issue....

I even tried a different router...

The problem for me had started up again out of nowhere, the Flash fix only lasted a week. I am of the belief it was a video card issue, after updating my ATI drivers it seems to work again. Maybe MS or Adobe released a fix for all I know . . .

At this rate though, I think I'll leave another alternative for remote login - tightvnc tunneled via SSH seems to be rock solid stable for me.

Check that link out I posted above. Lots of good ideas in there. Not sure if any of them will work, but something in SP1 might have broken RDP. Both of my video cards have up-to-date drivers.. RealVNC doesn't work for me either.

I'll keep you posted if something work, please do the same.

Mine's working now, I just don't know what solved it.

Are you using any multiple monitor applications or skinning? I updated my copy of Actual Multiple Monitors and WindowBlinds, so maybe that has something to do with it.

So this is crazy. I brought my macbook air into work to see if the mac rdp client would work, which it does just fine. I stayed logged in for awhile, logged off, switched to the PC and now IT WORKS on the PC too. I changed nothing. First time it has succesfully made the connection for more than a nano second... I just don't get it.

I've changed nothing since yesterday. The Mac forged the tunnel! wtf.
