Try it. IE9 was created for windows 7. If you can repair IE through a reinstall, even using IE9, isn't it worth it?
How did the computer restart/system check (sfc scan) go?

1. The hard drive did have a partition, but when system got restored, that partition dissappeared.
2. The 'restore point' with which the system did pick up, is lost. The IE problem remained. This incident happend on Aug 13, and I updated Windows subequently. The last restore point it now shows is from September. Hence restore will not work.
We probably need to find a way to uninstall IE 8 and reinstall it. But what i read from the threads, that is not possible.
What if I take the iexplore.exe from Program files and paste it in Program files x86 ? Will that help.

Am late in on this one and running late too but if you have a 64bit systemup and running why do you want the 32bit IE9??
If you want to reinstall then if you have the data backed up maybe a factorydefault would be the way to go.

Since the preinstalled OS is 64 bit running Recovery wouldn't help with your 32 bit problems.
John asks a good question as to why you need to waste two Win7 licenses on the same OS on the same PC. If it isn't absolutely necesary then now might be a time to consider wiping the HD to get the vastly superior Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7 for your chosen bit-version, as you seem like a tech enthusiast and none would run the crappy factory preinstall which is the worst install you can have.
As to 32 bit, enable Automatically deliver drivers via Windows Update (Step 3) then run all rounds of Important and Optional Windows Updates with reboots until there are no more. I would accept IE10 when offered which may resolve that issue.
If not and SFC comes back clean, then next I'd consider a Repair Install.
bakshir, confirm whether you have the Internet Explorer folder in Program Files (x86)? The iexplore.exe is missing if indeed the folder is there? A Guy
I also had same Problem...
32 bit applications including browsers were either not working or freezing up in Windows 7..
This is the issue of some of drivers which cause 32 bit applications not work properly...
In my case, it was intel rapid storage technology..
I am using lenovo G500 laptop..
check out uninstalling some drivers....
I have the same Lenovo model and run a completely Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7 with only MSE starting up with Win7. I use no Lenovo software except the Power Management which I enable only long enough to set the Battery Saver to 60% charge when I am not traveling, to preserve battery life. Then I kill its process in the Task Manager until I need to start it again from All Programs.
Did you disable the IRST driver?
