Public wireless network connection issues on laptop

I have an Acer Aspire 5315 laptop with Windows 7 32bit Home Premium Edition 1GB RAM. i had to take it apart to replace the dc port in it last week and then also had to replace the ac adapter as well. Now that i have it back together and everything works it won't connect to the wireless internet. I don't have my own internet currently so i tried various public access points. It will detect a network (though no signal) but won't connect even though everyone else can connect. I'm using a desktop at the public library currently. All my drivers are updated and it says everything is working properly. It's a Broadband 802.11g wireless network adapter. ok, change that from won't connect to EXTREMELY low signal. i'm right next to the router and have 1 bar for a signal and it connected. Any ideas what's going on with my signal issues?

Did you reconnect the black and white wireless antennas on the network card?
