Network adapter not found on laptop?

Hello, I came across this forum while searching for answers on google, by alas I wasn't able to find and clear answer, so I feel as if you folk over here may be able to help me.

First off, back in December I brought an ASUS G74SX-BBK9 and it was running perfectly until about two weeks ago. Two weeks ago I made the decision that I wanted to try out the beta version of Windows 8, and truth behold, I didn't really like it, thankfully I also had ubuntu running alongside so I just used that until I could get a hold of a restore dick for windows 7. A couple days later I was messing around with my computer looking to see as if I could find anything that would fix the problem and I came across a feature stating that it would restore the hard drive, and for some reason I thought that it meant it would restore it to its original state of when it had windows 7 running on it. Well, after 15 or so hours the process of it was through and I found out that windows 8 was still running strong. A couple of days later my brother finally got his computer and he gave me his restore disc, and I thought that this would solve all of my problems. This process only took about 30 minutes to an hour but after it finished and I attempt to connect to the internet it refused too, stating that it needed a network adapter, and that I should connect to the internet for information on how to fix it. It's been like that for over a week and it's getting to the point where it is pissing me off. I considered re-downloading ubuntu onto the computer though a USB drive or burning it on a CD and than downloading it via there but it wouldn't make much of a difference considering the driver is messed up.

Please,of you know how to fix this, help, please.

Restoring with your brother's restore disc was not such a swift idea. Your brother's system has different drivers for a different hardware configuration.

What you should use is an installation disc like the one you can get from here. It may still ask you for the CD/DVD driver, but you can download that from your manufacturers website and store it on a stick from where you can insert it.

Once the system is starting, it should find the other drivers.

But if I can't access the internet how do I download this? Unless I can use a USB drive or a blank CD or something?

Right. You download it from another system and store the driver on a USB stick. Then when it asks for it, you point to the the driver on the stick.

Another quick question. How big should the USB stick be?

1GB is probably enough. Drivers are not that big.

I have a strong feeling, that you did not make a full system image of your computer on to an external hard disk as like everyone should be doing in case of a system disaster.

You will have to get the original system installation disks for your model of computer. You will have to bring it back to its birthday condition, as like when you first bought it. Then you will have to install all your software back again.

With laptops and most name brand computers, you would require the original system disks to bring back the computer when in the situation there is no image backup.

For clone type computers, you can install the generic Windows OS, then manually load the mother board drivers, and all the other necessary drivers for everything to work properly.

Also, if it is just your NIC that is not working, you can try to see if it is possible to have a generic driver, but this may not always be workable for many of the name brand type computers.

Before doing the above, back up all your user files to another drive or some other media, because these will all be lost.

I remember reading somewhere in the MS site recommending to do a proper system image backup before installing Win8. They were warning that it is very Beta, and there will be issues with it. Technically it is an unfinished OS.

    :)

I have found out how to fix my computer but I have one question left. Which one of these: ASUSTeK Computer Inc. -Support- Drivers and Download G74Sx would happen to fall under network adapter?

After someone answers this I will make the thread as solved.

Once again, thank you for your time.
