No DNS after downloading and installing latest Windows Update
Hi :)
I'm not particularly techy so I hope I describe this right.
I have a Toshiba laptop running the 64bit edition of Windows 7 Home Premium. Service Pack 1 is installed.
A couple of weeks ago, I was routinely automatically downloading and installing from Windows Update. Then at my last Windows Update, after it had finished installing, DNS simply would not resolve, then it started to but very very slowly and then it stopped again. I could use IP addresses just fine, but DNS would simply not resolve, or would do so very slowly.
Reading around, I tried the following:
1) Removing the Microsoft Virtual WiFi Miniport Adapter completely. This seemed to work at first, and then it just stopped again.
2) Changing the preferred DNS to 208.67.222.222 and, when that didn't work to 208.67.220.220. that didn't work either.
3) I shut down all anti-virus/firewall - still didn't work.
I ended up taking Windows back to a System Restore point pre- the latest Windows Update and everything was fine again. Now I'm worried to run Windows Update at all. If anyone has any ideas about what I should be doing, I'd be very grateful.
Thanks in advance.
