    Hello Windows 7 users!

I had the same problem as nick4501. The thing is: I've tried many possible solutions, but none of them worked. I'll give you a brief overview of my 'pain in the *ss' route...

First, I updated my router's firmware. This can easily be done by searching the model on the net (using Bing or Google). When updating your router, don't forget to write down your provider information (I say this because I lost my papers with all the account information :)) because the router will be reset due to the update.

After that, I tried to reset my Wireless security. I read that WEP was not longer supported in Windows 7 (correct?), so it was obvious WPA would keep the intruders away. With all settings set, I tried to establish a connection. 'Could not connect with network xxx'.

Damn, I was disappointed! I turned of the security of my AP (Access Point) (so no WEP/WPA) and I was stunned. It worked!
So I looked in the list of configuration options of my AP-router. I saw a strange option called 802.1X Authentication. I turned it on (along with WPA security) and bam, everything worked like a charm!
    Hope this helps!

I've also tried disabling IPv6, but there is still no change.

Can anyone provide any suggestions / information? Surely this must be a known windows 7 issue...?

Sorry my wireless units are not available, but when you first set Win7 to see wireless, there is a box to click, which allows Win7 to look for a wireless connection or NOT to look - you manually have to search.
it also should show the icon on the taskbar if you select it... the icon will tell you if there is a connection present or not.

check your wireless setting.. Win7 and XP are different.. I assure you of that.

    Win7 both 32 & 64 bit & XP

I have similar problems, I have an XP laptop (I'm typing this on it) connected by wireless to my old Belkin G router.

I also have two tower systems that I have upgraded to Win7 ultimate (one 64bit and one 32bit) both of Windows 7 machines will no longer connect to the Internet and they will not see the XP machine. They are showing the network as "Public", they can sometimes see each other, after I force the IP addresses, but they will not use the DNS on the router.

I have been running a Windows network since Win95, but I am still trying to work out how to get Win 7 to talk to the router and the XP machine.

    One solution: Fix disabled DHCP

This is an old thread, but I haven't seen any reply matching what solved the problem for me.

I had the same (or possible a very similar) problem with not being able to access the wireless network with my new Belkin "Share" router from Windows 7, even though several other devices had no problem at all (specificially iPhone and Android). I could manually add the network and Windows would show it as "connected", but I was not able to access the router or Internet through it.

What finally solved it for me, was that I let Windows run it's network diagnostics and repair. Windows found that DHCP was not enabled for this network. And had also noticed myself that it was not using the default IP number for the Belkin router. After Windows fixed this, the IP number changed, and traffic started to flow.

I don't understand why DHCP was not enabled. It seems to me that DHCP is usually the default when adding a network in Windows, and I didn't change that.

I wasn't even able to find a convenient way to go from the wireless networks panel or the networking center to the IP settings for this network, so I could have spotted this problem myself and corrected it. (Can anyone tell me how to get there?)
