Windows 7: Dual Connection at Startup

Dual Connection at Startup

Upon startup into Windows, my wireless connection connects to two separate networks; At least network manager say's so. One being my home WPA2 and the other being my neighbors unsecured net. Ipconfig just shows mine, and im using my external IP.

Further, im unable to un-check boxes on any network from auto-connecting. Is is this a permissions issue? I only run Windows as a separate user, elevating when needed. Currently, I only have one network in my wireless network manager (mine), and it's set to auto start to that.

Unplugging my wireless adapter for a second and plugging it in seems to solve the issue. Any recommendations on this issue? To me it seems to point to wireless adapter driver. I'm using an AWUS036H.

Windows 7 Ult, Windows 8.1 Pro,

I'm not too sure what might cause that sort of problem and it sounds like you have the settings correct but I can't help to think that changing the wireless channel to one further away from the one your neighbor is using might help fix the problem.

He may even be using the same channel as you are which may cause this problem to occur but I've never heard of it.

You can do that in the routers wireless set up page.

You can use this the Xirrus wifi scanner to check out the channels in your area.

I can try that, I have many at 11 including me, many at 6, many at 1. Which is typical, I can go to 9. But these are things I have played with in the past. Also, this does not occur on other operating systems, or Win boxes in the house. I'm trying real hard to run through possibilities here.

The elephant in the room on this one was to follow my own advice in a separate thread and download a new driver from AWUS and reinstall. With a successful reboot, im calling it good. Thanks for you help. Nevertheless, this was some interesting activity that did worry me a little.
