Promblem with Atheros AR9285 wireless Network Adapter-disconnecting

    Hello folks,

Seriously need a Helping Hand here, I bought a Samsung R540 last yr (Oct) everything worked awesome. I have been using wireless internet since i got it, Recently I bought star wars and been dying to play it. Was going great at first but then started getting connection problems. So my brother bought a new gaming router (Netgear N9000 dual band WNDR4500) renamed it the same SSID as our first router and same PW. Now, I already went over this with Tech support from best buy and they say I need to reinstall my wireless drive. I can not make the drive new born baby and all. I get constant rolling disconnects even when not on the game. It will sometimes stay on Identifying, and then when the SSID does connect it shows it as my SSID (2) why? my SSID does not have an (2) in it nor does it show that for my other family members who are using it. Just me and my labtop is the only one hving problems. I trouble shoot it but it says no problems with it, and then when I tried updating the driver it says it is already updated. I have a virus scanner Kaspersky came with the labtop. Also when I turn off Kaspersky a pop up says that a network is up and will be disconnected if i turn it off. Please Help!

SSID (2) is quite normal. SSID settings of old router still exist in registry. I had the same but cleaned registry manually. you can leave it the way it is!

All settings are as it should as far as I can see! Even kaspersky is normally (I've seen that before).

    How often do problems occur?
    Only when playing heavy games?
Does a simple reconnect to wireless router solve the problem?

The problem occurs almost 5 times every 10 mintues.. sometimes takes longer for the network to identify the router. I do have another screen shot i will post to show you that i found that i updated the network adapter and that is when I started having the problem but it was through windows so i do not know if it was cuz of that is why i started having it. I also did a system roll back not to far on the 27 of last month before i downloaded the update to the router to see if it works. it doesn't just do it when playing star wars it does it even while i am on the net just browsing. I only play star wars, nothing else. Simply reconnecting the router every time does not do the trick either. because i have tried unplugging everything disconnecting from the wifi. and then waiting and then reconnecting everything and reconnecting to the wifi and still does no good.. Wow so when looking for that system update i did, i was like ok it won't be there cuz i did the system roll back but sure enough it's there.

april 1st was the first time you updated the wireless driver? you did it manually I think because it's an optional update. Only critical updates (and recommended updates depending on your settings) are installed automatically. You did install the windows update manually?

You did do a "system restore" to a date prior to problems, so new driver should be gone. But maybe this helps:

Goto to "device manager" . Doubleclick on "network adapters". Rightclick on Atheros wireless and click properties.
    1. After finding the hardware you're rolling back the driver for, right click on the device's name or icon and click on Properties.
    2. In the Properties window for the device, click the Driver tab.
    3. On the Driver tab, click the Roll Back Driver button.
Note: If the Roll Back Driver button is disabled, Windows 7 does not have a previous driver to roll back to so you won't be able to complete this process.
    4. Click the Yes button to the "Are you sure you would like to roll back to the previously installed driver software?" question.
The previously installed driver will now be restored. You should see the Roll Back Driver button as disabled after the roll back is complete.
    5. Click the Close button at the bottom of the device properties screen.
    6. Click Yes on the System Settings Change dialog box that says "Your hardware settings have changed. You must restart your computer for these changes to take effect. Do you want to restart your computer now?"
If this message is hidden, closing the Control Panel window might help. You won't be able to close Device Manager.
Note: Depending on the device driver you're rolling back, it's possible that you won't need to restart your PC. If you don't see the message, consider the roll back complete.
    7. Your computer will now automatically restart.
When Windows 7 starts again, it will load with the device driver for this hardware you had previously installed.

    Atheros AR9285 Wireless Network Adapter

I have the same issue. I had a major HD failure. Installed the OS clean. I have no prior drivers to install. While I did locate other drivers and tried them. They worked worse than the newest drivers. I tried OEM drivers from my laptop maker. (ASUS), no difference. I have looked around the net and found numerous postings with the same issue. It seems they are an OEM supplier for many different manufacturers. There appears to be an issue with Windows updated files. As the device worked without issues before updates were installed...
The symptoms are of two types.

    1. Nic card stops working. Running troubleshooter restarts Nic and finds network.
    2. Nic is no longer seen by Os. System troubleshooter will reslove this issue only 50% of the time. The other 50% system must be restarted. Nic is found, but Os must start the Nic with user prompt.

Users forums with ASUS are useless.. Similar issues there are not resolved and only other users have responded with less than useful suggestions.

Having same problem with Atheros AR9285 on my MSI A6200-462US

There are so many posts about this faulty Wireless card or it's incompatibility with the driver that you would think there would be some solutions by now, but there aren't. I also have the exact Wireless adapter in my Asus A53E, but thankfully haven't had problems with it yet... just with everything else.

Has anyone found a solution since the last post? I'm dying of frustration here. Any help would be appreciated!! :)
