New ADSL ISP, internet connection dropping randomly.

Now, I recently had to change to new ISP, that can't provide cable where I live. It's stupid DSL internet through the phone cable. With my old ISP there were zero problems, but now it's quite bad.

Connection drops randomly for about a minute, then it comes back without me touching anything. Windows says it cannot connect to the primary DNS server when that happens. The problem happens more in the evening, which leads me to believe I cannot fix it, but any suggestions would be welcome.

Could it be like, not the line overloading because of other people, but the router getting clogged because of being used all the day, or something? O_o There's 4 PCs connected to the same router by the way so traffic gets quite heavy. I can't use my old router. I tried, but the cable that goes in this one is smaller, phone cable, not the ethernet one I plug in my PC.

PS: I don't know my router password. I go to 192.168.1.1 and it requests it, I try a bunch of things, but nothing really works. I'll try to figure it out.

If its a router/modem that was provided to you by your ISP then they should have included logon information. If they didn't you should contact them.

Are all the computers experiencing the same problem or just a specific one?

Once you have access to the GUI of the router you can check for a firmware update.

Another thing to simply try is to set a pubic dns server on the router. Your ISP might not have a reliable DNS. Googles dns is 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 set that on each pc or the dhcp section of the router.

I tried google's DNS's. They didn't help. I set them through the network adapter's properties, though.

All PC's are affected at the same time. When it goes out, it goes out for all PCs and wireless is also down for this time. If it is some Windows 7 issue, could it be affecting the WinXP PCs connected to the same router and the wireless on my phone? Right now it is my PC with Win7 and 3 older PCs that refuse to upgrade, so they're still running WinXP.

I'll try to get the password to my router.

Get the password for the router then see if there is an firmware update. Since it is effecting all of the machines it probable has something to do with the router. Of not u might have to have the ISP technician come out to test your line.

Also when you you don't have connection get an ipconfig output.

Click start orb
Type cmd
Once cmd opens type ipconfig /all
Post the output.
