    win7 sleep and server 2003


    Hi all,
    I have a win 2003 server with multiple users using windows 7 Ent 32b, the Desktop & My Documents are redirected to the server.

    My problem is when the computer wakes up from sleep mode, all the files are gone and I need to hit "F5" until they come back.

    Is this a compatibility problem or just a configuration ?

    Have you seen this?

    When a users folder is created or renamed in My Documents it doent appear you have to hit f5 to refresh

    Mapping a drive has alleviated the problem for a number of people.

    In addition to kegobeer's links, what antivirus software are you using? I know that many antivirus programs have an active scanner for files/directories that are open and sometimes require a refresh when they are scanning the opened/viewed files. I have experienced this with VIPRE, Kaspersky, and BitDefender so far in my testing of antivirus programs to determine what I prefer.

    Using offline files is also an option. If you use offline files then a local cached copy is kept on the PC's. If you disconnect from the server then you will still have the local copies. Once the server connection has been restored they will sync back up to the Server.

    Stopping the PC's from sleeping is an easier fix to implement.

    I'm using Symantec Endpoint Protection (deployed from the server)

    Offline files is off, we don't want copies of the files on local computers, because multiple users the same profile from multiple computers at the same time (I.E. all preschool teachers uses a single profile with the same folders)

    We want the computers to go the sleep, so the computer and HD will live longer...


    If I upgrade to Win2008 Server, will this problem stop ?

    No upgrading to Server 2008 wont solve the problem. The problem is that when the PCs go to sleep the network connection is disconnected, thats why you need to refresh.

    Change the sleep times so that they are longer, say 1hour. - Realistically you wont get much more use out of the HDD's by putting the PC to sleep.

    Thanks for the reply, I tried disabling the "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power" option in the "network adopter properties" in "Computer Management".
    That didn't help...
    I think I'll disable the "sleep mode" but enable the "Turn off Monitor" and "Turn off HD"
