Dual network connection - to the internet.

    Is it possible to....

I have a laptop, running windows7, which connects to a wireless access point (on a train). I also have a usb dongle. Is it possible to configure that my connection to the internet uses both - ie if one does not work the other will kick in - and specify a preference order?

    Many thanks

Hello fhudo, and welcome to Windows Seven Forums. We welcome your questions!

I think the best you will be able to do is to create a separate "profile" for the two wireless devices. It will be like having two networks, but you can only use one at a time. It gets complicated because the network server gives a computer its IP address based on the MAC address coded into each network device. If you were to switch to a different network device, the server thinks this must be a new computer, but the computer is still trying to connect with the other device's address.

You will need to create a new network connection for each device. If you google the topic, you should find lots of help on how to set it up.

    Happy surfing!
