As a test please switch off the firewall and see if you can connect to the webpages and use programs which you have not been able to.

Please do not forget to re-enable the firewall after the test has been done and let us know the results please.

If the results are still the same try some New Zealand DNS servers which are free and put them into your TCPIPv4 settings for the ethernet adapter as we cannot change at the router level with it being out of your control.

Hey, thanks it was great. :)

Okay so while I was away they finally decided to fix my rooms Ethernet port! This means I can use my desktop computer without any problems!

I tried your suggestions and unfortunately they did not work. I know it's not best to just push problems aside, but since my desktop is working I don't need this internet so much. I am sure I am going to clean re-install Windows at some stage which hopefully fixes it. Unless you have any more suggestions, I thank you for all your help. :)

Hi Lakenz glad you holiday was good.

Did they test whether the ethernet connection was working by hooking up a computer and testing that internet connectivity was running smoothly.

Did you test your desktop worked on the connection before doing the mods i suggested?

    Glad to help lakenz.:)

Edit: When you set the mtu you did that on the "Local Area Connection" didn't you?

    What webbrowser are you using?

I did nothing to the desktop, and I did connect to it as soon as I got home. The desktop connection is running smoothly, so they must have?

I changed the MTU for the wireless connection, not the local.

I am using Chrome, but have tried IE and Firefox.

So Llakenz everything is working properly now is that correct i think i may have misunderstood you i thought the connection was still not working propely?

The mtu should have been set on the ethernet(Local Area Connection) as you are using that at the hostel.

Sorry, my laptop (which we have been working on) is still playing up. But because they fixed my Ethernet port in my room, I can now use my much better Desktop without issues, so I don't need to fix the laptop any more. :)

Thank you for your help, I really appreciate it!
