Please allow me to welcome you to Windows Seven Forums! Your questions are welcome and we will try our best to help! Thank you for filling in some of your system specs, we all really appreciate you for that.

There have been several threads recently dealing with the new "HomeGroup" versus the "Workgroup" used in 2000, XP, and Vista. Rather than repeat all of that, here are a couple of links for you to check out. Then if you have additional questions, please feel free to post them back here.

Only Windows 7 computers can use the HomeGroup. Two computers need to be joined in only one HomeGroup, see the threads.

win xp cannot see win 7 on network places

    Sharing permissions problem

Can't get laptop and netbook linked via Homegroup

    Happy surfing!
