wshelper.dll missing, but actually present

Hi people, my first post here. I'm a web-apps programmer with a very (sorry) basic knowledge of windows. I know, it's a shame...

Because of a malware and the subsequent avira antivir fix, I'm having a huge problem with wshelper.dll.

I have an admin account, and I run xampp server for local development.
After the virus, xampp is running but none of my browser (localhost and 127.0.0.1) are giving any response.

I've recreated the system32\drivers\etc\host file as shown at microsoft, and now I'm trying to reset netsh winsock, but via cmd I get a "wshelper.dll missing", so I'm stuck. I've checked, the dlls are where they have to be (system32, system64, syswow64).

Just to know, when I launch my eclipse android emulator I get a "DNS server missing" message.

So, my question(s):
Do I have to overwrite the dlls with a copy?
If yes, how do I have to procede? De-authorize the 3 sys folders or there is another way?

thanks in advance.

Any time I get issues with system files, the first thing I do is go to the command prompt and sfc /scannow. Just checking if you have done this...

don't know if this will help, but under static linking, it says some info that may help you in the right direction. :) good luck and god speed!

Windows 7 DLL File Information - wshelper.dll

P.S. I would try chkdsk /r in the "cmd" if you believe any of your files may be corrupt....

So, when does UAC present itself to you
Hey Guys, I'm not here trying to argue the merits for and against the UAC system, but rather I am trying to get to the bottom of why some people are massively irritated by it, while others hardly ever notice it. I for one, have used UAC since day 1 with Vista and continue to use it to this...
