In your case I can say for certain that your DIR-655 is not the cause of your networking problem. I'm using the exact same router with no problems what so ever.

I would have to place the blame on your network adaptor or drivers at this point simply because there are no other options. I can't seem to find any info on the Rosewill RNX-N2X wireless adapter, but the fact that Windows 7 can't even find the adaptor tells me that is the problem.

You can probably just purchase another Windows 7 approved network adaptor to fix your particular problem. I can just about guarantee that will fix it.

There are so many to choose from, just make sure it shows the Windows 7 logo and you should be alright.

indeed it appears to have fixed it. I had it on 12 hours yesterday doing a wide variety of things from downloading, installing, playing online games, surfing the interweb and just leaving it sit with no problems at all.

If OP is using "homegroup" they do need IPv6. workgroup doesnt

I spoke too soon it would appear. Immediately after posting that it dropped me off the internet and I've only been able to maintain connection for a tops of 30mins.

12 hours of up time and now it drops the connection? in any event your usb adaptor was outdated and was not about to work with Windows 7. I couldn't look up drivers for your board though because I'm not sure what board you have... Homebuilt?.

The eithernet drivers on that motherboard need to be fairly recent with Windows 7 compatiblity.

I've found out what my board is, I opened it up because I couldn't remember what was in there.

XFX nforce 750a AMD Socket 940 DDR2 Motherboard

problems still persist though I haven't looked for drivers for my board yet. I don't want to get the wrong ones.. :/

You should try the Nvidia site for your eithernet drivers in that case. Lots of problems with the Nvidia chipsets and Windows 7, but usually if one of their drivers won't work the other will. I think the 15.51 is the latest. You may need to visit the XFX site to see if they have those drivers or not. That should solve the rest of the puzzle.
