    Unidentified Network

Hi, I just installed a copy of Windows 7 Ultimate, 32 bit version. I Immediately got Marvell Yukon 32-bit Windows 7 drivers, so I could connect to the internet. Unfortunately, I didn't copy the IP address and all that, so I went on my sister's laptop and got it from there. Everything worked fine, the IP was good, no errors. However, after actually saving the configuration, it gave me "Unidentified Network". I use broadband to connect to the internet, by the way, but I need the LAN configuration, so it works. Well, I can't figure out what to do. I tried reinstalling, updating drivers, rebooting, shutting down, nothing works. I can't even ipconfig/release and ipconfig/renew, because it says:

    Windows IP Configuration

The operation failed as no adapter is in the state permissible for this operation.

    What should I do?

    Hi, Welcome to Seven Forums

You can't use IPCONFIG /release and /renew because your Yukon ethernet connection is not using DHCP.

Is your router that you are connecting to set up for DHCP?

Write the addresses down, then go into Network and sharing centre and change the connection settings to use DHCP (Automatically obtain IP address, and the bottom one Automatically obtain DNS server addresses).

What is the PPP DIGI adapter used for? Do you use your computer in multiple locations?

No, it's a broadband internet that needs the LAN configuration to be done, else it won't work. I don't want to setup a DHCP. DIGI PPP = Internet stick which I'm using to post now, from my computer, as I don't have internet.

Ok, if you don't want to use DHCP - You want to have everything set to static.

I'm assuming your router configuration is correct and has not changed since you last had internet access working, and that you are NOT using NAT. To give you more help it would help to know more about your configuration.

What sort of router are you using? What sort of Broadband is it? DSL, CABLE, Hybrid... something else?

Are the username and password for your Internet connection that are in your router correct?

A traceroute on your gateway shows the traffic is being routed all over the world, and then dies in Bucharest. (See below).

Are you sure you are using the IP Address, gateway, and DNS servers assigned by your ISP?

Have your tried to reset your router?

Have you talked to your ISP about this?

I'm using cable broadband, I think. Also, the IP, username and password should be good, because they work for my sister's laptop, so it's pretty strange. I haven't talked to the ISP though and I'll ask my mother to call them today. I can't, due being 13, unfortunately and they'd take me for a fool.

Also, after installing windows 7, the internet never worked, so I'm not sure the configuration is correct, but it should be, since it works for my sister's laptop, shouldn't it?

Also, I'm not sure what you mean by router, isn't a router used in wireless? If you mean modem, then no, I haven't tried resetting it, I don't know how.

I'll get the IP, gateway and all that from the ISP today and tell you the results after, if any.

I called a friend which also has Windows 7 Ultimate and it happened to him as well. He told me he updated windows 7, with the updates microsoft gave and it worked. Automatic updates, as it is in XP. I went in Windows updates and saw I have 114 updates to install. I started installing em now and will try when I come back from school. Hopefully that'll fix it. :)
