    Reconnecting to wireless internet issue

    Prerequisites:
Windows 7 Professional x64 SP1 (No pending updates)
    Drivers up-to-date
    Linksys AE2500 wireless adapter

I find that my current issue may be a tad odd because I haven't been able to find a similar issue in any search, so I come to you guys in hopes that someone has heard of or experienced it before.

After a few minutes of use, if I were to disconnect my computer from my wireless internet (either by removing the usb adapter or disconnecting through the network center) and attempt to reconnect immediately afterwards, the network and sharing center will no longer respond to my input. Clicking the internet icon on the taskbar will do nothing nor will going through the control panel and attempting to click "connect to network" afford any results. Restarting explorer doesn't seem to fix anything and the only solution I've found is rebooting the system entirely. I've fallen for the idea that my installation my be fubar but I'm hoping there's a simpler solution than that.

The only troubleshooting I've attempted is the sfc command which didn't find anything. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.

Does this issue arise if left alone? If not, do you need to be able to remove the USB adapter?

If I leave the system idle, it does seem to occur but I can't pinpoint what causes it. I can only assume that a random disconnect from the wireless router is what causes it to happen when idle. But it also may stem from the route of the issue itself. I can't be sure as there are no fatal error event logs. But yes, I have discovered, upon return on a few occasions, that I was disconnected from the internet and unable to reconnect. Though I doubt the disconnect itself is related to the source of the problem, I could be wrong.

Seems as if there were quite a few things wrong with my installation of windows, as I today learned. I've gone about a good 12 hours without being able to reproduce the described issue so I believe I can mark this as solved. But for those who may wander onto this thread with this or similar issues, I'd like to list the steps taken to potentially solve it.

    • Windows Repair disc to find any start-up issues (which it did in my case).
    • .NET Framework validation tool which can be found by googling the term.
    • In my case the .NET Framework 4.0 was in need of repair
    • The browser-based Geniune Windows Activation tool seems to be a neat little trick to pick out exploits in the windows system files which could be triggered by malware or viruses. Definitely suggest trying that.
    • And finally if all else fails, use the windows installation disc to upgrade your installation which will replace any corrupt or missing system files.

Thanks for the help guys and I'll update if the issue persists.
