already tried the netsh commands. winsocks successfully reset and once it said that the ip reset worked on everything. still didn't fix the problem. i tried the netsh int ip reset again after it was suggested again and was told everything reset except request echo reset failed.

another thing i'm wondering is if my windows firewall is somehow the culprit. after thinking of it i tried to access it and it won't open. i've seen another post about that problem but the suggestions on how to fix the firewall don't work for me.

    ammyy scammed

ok... so i still haven't found a solution to the problem so i look up ms customer help number that pops up in a search. call it. indian guy tells me to go to ammyy.com, download aa v3 and give him remote access. SURE! i say. then he looks at all the errors i have and tries to sell me a $189.00 package to fix everything (including a $100 1yr warranty). well the computer isn't worth that much, so i told him no. he takes off the warranty and price drops to $89. i say it aint worth it! he says ok by. well i'm scared he still has access to my laptop so i restart. almost EVERY SINGLE SERVICE IS DISABLED AND CANNOT BE FOUND!!! i can't access the internet. i don't even have a network locator! my system restore doesn't work. i'm scanning now in safe mode with ms security essentials. BTW that is the program he offered me (that i already had) in the $189 package that was "totally transferable" to any computer i have or purchased in the future.

is there anyone who can fix this? now i'm just trying to get back to the better crappy state the laptop was in b4 this happened! i tried safe mode "last known good config" to no avail. again... scanning with ms s.e. but doubt it'll fix it. anyone been through this?

can't run ms programs or updates

so i figured out that i "just" needed to manually activate every single service (aside from the ones that say non-existent or marked for deletion: namely dns client and dhcp server). that got me back to my "better" bad state. the problem is that i can't download any microsoft updates or fixit or defender offline. let me rephrase: i can download them but i get different errors every time i try to run them.

    for example:
-service pack 1 needs to be installed first. it is installed but for kicks i dloaded it again and tried to install. says its already there!

-don't have permission. my user account is an admin but found that doesnt always give me complete control so i activated the true admin account to no avail. trying to give myself full control just gets me the error that access is denied for; c:boot, c:\bootmgr, c:\pagefile.sys, c:\program files and c:\windows.

-not enough memory to perform action. well i know i have a lot of memory taken up but surely 10gigs is enough to run an install

-you must turn windows features on or off in the control panel to install or config microsoft.net framework 3.0. tried both. got an error

there are more but i'd be here all day. i feel like there were some major registry rewrites or something that just started crashing the system like dominoes. i just need to find where it started! i just wish i had more time to research and mess with it. this is now an issue of pride. my computer can't beat me!

No offence but dude, it's time to punt the Op system and reinstall from scratch.

well it didn't come with a vista disc from the store. i do have an xp disc. would it be worth going back to xp since it is apparently a more stable system? and how would i go about doing that if it's even possible. i guess i'd have to just save all the contents of the computer to an external hard drive before i scratched everything.

    thoughts anyone?
