Connecting to a Network Printer on a Domain

Hello, I tend to bring my personal laptop to work as I usually use it when working remotely.

I can find the printer and install it but I cannot print, even the test page fails.

I figured out that this is because my personal laptop is not on my company domain. However, like for any other shared resource such as a network drive or accessing our exchange server, I would expect to be asked for my credentials so that I can connect to the printer.

Cna this be done? Is there a way to print from my personal laptop to a network printer on a domain?

    Thanks

You should probably speak with those that administer you company domain before hooking your personal devices up to the network. That's said... if you type \\server_name\printer_name you should be prompt'd to enter your credentials. But even if you install the printer on your local machine you will need to re-validate every time you connect it wont just remember you. The easiest way is to make a shortcut to the printer that you can just click when you hook up to the network so you can re-validate each time.

Ahh 64 bit w7... You will need to find the correct printer drivers and configure it as a local printer on your laptop. You will need the IP address of the printer to configure a Standard TCP/IP port.
