    LAN problems

    Hi all-

First post, and not exactly a pro, so bear with me. I recently installed Windows 7 pro RTM on all three of the computers on my network. Overall everything went well, but I am having some weird connection problems BETWEEN the three computers. I have not had any problems connecting to the internet, only with seeing other computers on the network, playing local LAN games, and keeping everyone connected to the homegroup. The weird thing is it goes in and out. Sometimes I'll be able to see one or both of the other computers on the network; sometimes I won't be able to see any. The same type of thing happens when we try to play local LAN games (Warcraft III). Sometimes you can see the hosting computer, sometimes you can’t.

It seems like resetting the router will give a slightly better chance of connecting with the other computers, but not a guarantee. I'm stumped. I thought it was the virus protection, but I uninstalled, and have the same problems. I've tried all of the windows troubleshooting and help guides, on all of the computers, and gotten no fix. I've googled the problem and not really seen anything like it. Any ideas would be appreciated!

    Additional Info:
Wifi network with a cable internet connection (Charter)
    2 laptops @ 64x (Acer, hp), and a desktop (hp 86x)
    Router: D-Link WBR 1310

Hi and welcome to seven forums

I'll bet that IPv6 is not disabled. Its not yet needed and causes random disconnects. If you want to disable it go to network and sharing>change adapter settings>choose your adapter>right click>properties>uncheck IPv6

Let us know if that doesn't fix it. btw, if you want to increase the tranfer speed and decrease ping time disable RDC

Hope these help and let us know if they dont

Disabling RDC will not do that...

While it doesn't lower network latency on every computer, its worth trying. For some (Like Me) it made a noticeable difference.

    Um actually it will
Remote Differential Compression (RDC) allows data to be synchronized with a remote source using compression techniques to minimize the amount of data sent across the network.

see here About Remote Differential Compression (Windows)

I think the confusion (my fault) is RDC can mean either remote desktop connection, or remote differential compression. Connection will have no effect on transfer speed, compression will.

Logic is right abt connection, but not abt compression

Often times those other computers can be seen by just hitting the refresh button while viewing the Network.
