    Windows 7 Sharing

Hi, I have to pcs running Windows 7 Home Premium. I am trying to network without Homegroup. I am using workgroup, both computers are members of the same workgroup name. From PC2 I can access PC1, without password. I try to access pc2 from pc1 and I am stopped with a box Enter Network Password. I have it set up to do shares without password. I have been racking my brain for two days. I want to share like I did in XP. I am using Outpost Firewall Pro, Windows Firewall disabled. Nod 32. I don't know what to do short of doing a clean reinstall to see if this fixes the problem.
I have done many google searches and everything relates to XP or Vista, some of which I've tried to no avail. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

you'll be better off enabling password protected sharing and use the same username and password on each computer (an actual password...a blank password doesn't count). It's easier and more secure that way.

if you want to leave password protected sharing disabled, you must go into the security options of the folders you wish to share and add the "Everyone" group. It means everyone can access your shared folders, so it's not secure. Especially if you roam with your computer and you haven't selected the proper network profile.

These are desktops, I doubt very much I'll be doing much roaming. I'm the only one that has access. Someone else would have to get into one PC before they could get into the other. The firewall and router is enough. I have tried your suggestion and that didn't work either. I have also disable TCP/IPv6 on both pcs. Looks like it may be a reinstall time. I was hoping I wouldn't have to resort to that. Windows 7 is driving me bonkers.

I'd uninstall your third party firewall, and disable the Windows firewall, and see if things start working.

I have done that numerous times as well. I originally tried the homegroup thing. I set it up on one computer, and the other said there was no homegroup presently available. Windows 7 sold this feature and made it seem so easy. I had it working while one was running xp. Now, it's a no go. I keep thinking that when I left the homegroup or tried to login before I used guest as username, and somehow it didn't remove that, therefore I keep getting this prompt. Which, I'd like gone. Thanks for all the help and support, I appreciate it. I keep trying to figure it out instead of resorting back to what I know xp. Change is hard.

You just want to share files right? If you dont want to use homegroup you can use the xp style work group

I would love some help. Yes, I want to share some files. XP seemed so easy. I have been messing with this for 3 days now and getting very frustrated. I have both computers set to the same workgroup name (which has been changed, from default). I can access one, but the other keeps asking for a username/password. I have turned off TCP/IPv6, turned off password sharing and it still asks. I am at a loss. Any help is greatly appreciated. I am just so used to being admin on xp and not having to jump through hoops to take control over my own files. I still am not sure how to do that. I can definately access the other pc, I haven't tried to shre anything yet, cos I'm sure I have to take ownership of it, even though it's not on my OS drive. Is this correct?

I would suggest taking this route too. Make sure all users accounts/passwords are on all machines and are the same - even if you don't use that account on that machine still put it on there - then enable password protected sharing. Using this method you will only be asked for your password when you first logon and never again. When you connect to a share it will just connect and not ask for a password.

Well. I guess I'm lucky then because it always works for me.

Another option you have is to enable the guest account and go into the Local Security Policy and enable "guest only" access instead of "classic logon".
