Yes you do the router setup first when you first take the router out of the box.

Connect a computer to the wall socket and look at the IP address it gets.
Well it seems the school is handing out Public IP addresses. 128.X.X.X is a real internet address and not a Private address
Post the full IPconfig output. You can replace the numbers after the 128 with X's.

Well then I'd try using the router as a real router. Use the WAN/Internet port and leave the DHCP server enabled.
Does your school have any restrictions about using a router? I'd check that out first.
I'm pretty sure they're allowed. I pick up other people's routers my on laptop.
So can I just plug in the router to the ethernet, set it to broadcast wireless-b and be done?
btw I'm going to delete my ipconfig now to be safe.
Well yes but you should setup security on the wireless side so others can connect to it and then you get blamed for any illegal downloading on the IP address assigned to your room.
Other then that you should be good to go.
Ah that's good news. It won't be used all the time, only when I want wireless-b wifi for my ds. I'll set up a WEP password for when I do use it.
I haven't set up a router in a long time. I just plug the router into the jack, have another cable connecting the router and pc and install it that way no?
BTW, thanks for answering everything, really appreciate it.
