Can I use a router to convert to a wireless-b signal?

I'm trying to get connected to wifi on my ds lite, but my university's wireless doesn't broadcast a wireless-B signal which is the only type a DS can connect to. Is it possible to use a router convert the school's wifi and broadcast a wireless B signal for myself?.

You cannot convert a signal from another router. The router needs to connect to a modem which in turn has to connect to a phone line with DSL service.

What if I connected the router to the ethernet port in my room? Can it work then?

Today's routers usually have b and N protocols. The setup you should do with the installation disk that came with the router - that's the easiest.

Yes that can work BUT you must not use the Router AS a Router. Turn Off the DHCP server in the router and do NOT use the WAN/Internet port on the router. It then becomes a Switch with Wireless Access Point.
Connect from Ethernet port in your room to one of the LAN ports on the router.
You should also set the router to work in the same IP range your school network uses. Which should be one of 3 Private IP addresses. 192.168.x.x, 172.16-31.x.x or 10.x.x.x.
The router must be setup in the same IP range so you can get to it, log on to it, from either a computer connected to it by wire or wirelessly.
You can then setup the wireless side to connect your DS system.

I don't have much experience setting up a network so that sounds tough to me. But i'm up for the challenge. Will this router do the job?

Yes it should as it has a B band. When you set it up make sure you set it to use the B band. The options may be B Only, B & G, G & N and or N Only. Make sure it is set to either B Only or B & G.

Ah good. I'm a bit unclear about your instructions though. Do I those things right out of the box or should I install the router normally first?
