Folders no longer accessible after sharing

Ok, strange scenario but I think it is network related so I'll try here.

I am dual booting 7 and XP with 7 now being my primary OS. Recently, I built a friend a new computer and had it hooked up to my router here at home.

Via 7, I shared 2 folders from my computer on the network so I could access software on his new build for installation.

Here is the strange part, the next time I booted into XP on my computer, I tried to access these 2 folders and I get the following:



Thinking it was related to some change or setting that Win7 made to these folders when I first shared them, I booted back to 7, switched off sharing on the folders (ie put them back to the way they were) booted back to XP, and they are STILL not accessible. When I right click and check properties, I get this:



Bear in mind, that these folders are in fact accessible still in Win7 Just not from XP anymore. Futhermore, these folders are on their own partition and not on any of the 2 OS partitions. This all within my computer, nothing to do over the network anymore, I was just stating at the top what I was doing with these folders over the network immediately prior to discovering this problem.

I'm stumped

when yu shared them in win 7 you took ownership. when you booted into xp you no longer had permission. do you have two different user anmes in win 7 and XP?

Thank you for the quick reply. My usernames are the same (the name it show at the top of the start menu on both OS's).

So what you are saying is that Win7 'took ownership' when I shared the folders? If so, I need to reverse this? The link above shows how to take ownership correct?

yes, you can actually look to see who the owner is by right clicking the folder and looking to see if you are a member of that group. Its in the security tab of the folder

I guess my username is Chris-PC, not just Chris? Not sure which is the actual username. That is different than XP then if it's Chris-PC. How do I get them back to the way they were?

Chris-PC is the name that your computer uses on the network, whereas Chris is your user name.

when you highlight the chris user what boxes are checked?

well, what I did to solve the issue is just mimicked the settings that I found on all my other folders. Everything else on the comp says 'everyone' so I just deleted all the security entries found in these two folders (as you see above) and added 'everyone' to them and problem is now gone.

Is this the right way to fix it? All of my folders say 'everyone' under the security tab.
