Is the easy tether network adaptor the one you disabled earlier?

McAfee is so problematic that I might even suspect it was caused by something it installed.

No I've had the easy tether one disabled for a while, it was the Realtek one which I disabled earlier. Yeah tell me about it, I've had many problems with McAfee in the past however this problem came along when connecting an Ethernet cable so it's like for some reason its stuck, beginning to think there is no fix, don't want to do an os reinstall.

I would try uninstalling those network adaptors and reboot the machine and see if it changes anything.

Just to be sure, do you mean all that appears under Network adapters or just the ones that aren't hidden?

Just the Realtek and the Easy tether. After that, unplug the machine, push the off button. Leave off for a minute then plug back in and reboot.
