No Wired Internet Access - SHOULD be an Easy Fix

Saved it to a flash drive, copied it to the problem child, extracted it and ran until reboot.

Could this possibly be related to McAfee? This machine has over 700 days remaining on the subscription, and I'm sure part of that protection involves a firewall, but when I try to open the McAfee Security Center I get a mcagent.exe System Error: The program can't start because MSVCR100.dll is missing.

You think I should just uninstall McAfee? I suppose I can always reinstall later. Maybe some sort of McAfee firewall is causing the problem.

For a while there I thought I'd hit the motherlode.... not just one but two people helping me... sigh....

Anyway I uninstalled McAfee and it made no difference. Have set windows to do a clean boot. No difference. Safe mode with networking. No difference. I'm amazed at the speed at which that little triangle appears. Just one or 2 seconds after the icons display.

Whether this means anything.... when I go to the Network and Sharing Center - underneath the Network 3 house and the Access type: No internet access - there's a heading 'Set up a new connection or network'. Should I be doing that?

Go to the manufacturers website and look for a driver update. Download it and install it.

Are you still getting a valid ip address?

Try to ping the router.

Then try to ping 8.8.8.8

Never mind.... I uninstalled McAfee and saw no change. But I noticed that some McAfee tasks were still running in task manager even after a reboot. So I went to services and tried to disable every McAfee service, but they were all greyed out. Then I wnt into the service tab from msconfig and unchecked eveything McAfee related. After a reboot there was still no change. But I saw something in taskmgr that looked McAfee-ish.

Then I downloaded a McAfee Removal Tool and ran it on the PC.

Problem solved. Add this to whatever database you guys use.

Glad its working. Remember in the future its always a good idea to use removal tools.

Good point chev. I really think AV company should get there stuff together.
