Wireles password issues with Win 7

Hello, all.

I am currently running the RTM version of Windows 7 on my HP Pavilion Elite desktop.

With every attempt to connect to the wireless network, an error message tells me the password is wrong.

This, however, isn't possible, since I'm using the same network on a laptop running XP to type this message, using the same password I tried on the HP.

Wireless router: Linksys WRT160N
Encryption Mode: WPA Personal
Encryption Type: AES

I had a similar problem at first with my old network, which was running the same encryption, until I entered an ascii passphrase that was generated along with the random WEP key.

This is a very strange issue.

I have checked all the drivers, which should not be an issue, since the network worked earlier today on a different router.

Also, I used to use this network last year with Vista, and the password has not changed.

Can you temporarily turn off security and encryption on both the router and pc to test the connection abilities under this circumstance?

Hi,

I had the same problem - using railink card....I set up a new N speed wireless network using the following

Tenda Wireless-N PCI Adapter

Sitecom Wireless-N 300N XR Gigabit Router

I set this up with my laptop and enabled encryptions WPA2 - AES. My windows 7 machine refused to log me in saying incorrect WEP encryption which was really annoying as it was set as WPA2.

To resolve this I disabled security on the router, and then updated to the latest drivers. Then when I put encryption back on it worked fine.

So for me it was blatantly a driver issue.

It was however a very annoying 30 mins as like you said all my other computers connected fine.

I disabled the security, and my desktop connected fine. However, trying to update drivers was a no-go. Getting the computer to search for updates illicited a response about the drivers being up-to-date.

Searching through HPs website to find drivers yielded no Win7 drivers for the device.

However, I looked for Vista drivers, and found up-to-date ones. But when I tried to install them, at the end of it all, it gives me an error about my computer not meeting the minimum requirements for the update, and the update fails.

I tried to reset every device, and it still gives me the same problem.

Any ideas?

Short of changing the encryption to WEP and manually changing every password on the netwok, I'm all out of ideas.

OK, so I ended up changing the encryption to WEP and calling it a day. It works now.

However, I'm sure I'll run into this problem again...
