Windows 7 Host loses internet connection when connected to VPN

    Hi everyone,

I am trying to set up a VPN from my Windows 7 desktop to my Windows 8 laptop for file sharing.
I can make the connection work and all that.
But for some reason, when I connect to my host via VPN, my host loses internet connection. The connection status is still active but no webpages load.
This is all when both the laptop and desktop is in the same LAN. Since I am not at my desktop when they are on two different routers, I cant test what happens when I am remote.
I read that guests can sometimes lose connection because of the "Use host's default gateway" option but since my host is losing connection, I am not sure what it is.

Do I need 2 network interfaces to properly set up a VPN? I am currently just using my motherboards ethernet port (Asus P8P67)

Any insight would be much appreciated.
    Thanks!

This is the only answer I see for this type of problem.

Sounds like you need to disable the option Use default gateway on remote network. You can find this by clicking the Advanced button in the properties page of Internet Protocol Version 4 (or 6) of your VPN connection.
