What will be my correct network type ?

    Hello,

I have 3 PCs at my residence right now.. (all with win7 Pro) (ESET SMART SECURITY installed) .
All of them connected to a 8port switch (wired connections). My ADSL modem is connected via LAN cable to the same SWITCH (so all the PCs share the same internet modem directly)

Now while sharing my files over LAN,what network type should i select ? HOME , WORK or PUBLIC ?
(PUBLIC options says that if you do not reco. all the PCs, select this option..so if my Broadband is connected to the PC directly,is that a PUBLIC network?)

    best wishes

    Hello Inwell,

Since they are all home PCs, creating a HomeGroup on one of the PCs, then have the other PCs join the HomeGroup may work best to allow them to share files with each other.

    Hope this helps, :)

Would the advice change if the computers were a mix of Windows 7 and XP Pro?

Use the tutorial below for files sharing between xp and 7.

    hi,

sharing files and folders was not a difficult issue... the security provided by windows to the diff types of networks was the main concern....

(I may be wrong but what I thought was ,if my pc is directly connected to the internet Broadband modem..im on a public network)

    best wishes

Setting computers to a Public network prevents sharing files or even being able to see each other.

If you wish to share files between computers that are connected to the same network set them all to home and use homegroup.

    You are welcome.
