The machine which I had driver problems with used the driver from the computer manufacturer. That is why I said go to the network adapter manufacturer's website. That's what it took to make mine work. Try the network adapter manufacturer's website, not the Dell website. Then check to see if you can connect. Be patient, and do this one step at a time.

Well, Phooey! I didn't notice that you had three posts when I started this reply. I'll just finish from here. It will be easier for someone else to come in and do some deeper troubleshooting if it becomes necessary. They will know what has already been done.

Don't worry about the virtual wireless adapter unless it is listed as the connect using device descrtibed in the following paragraph.

If the driver doesn't work, navigate back to manage wireless networks, and click on Adapter properties. Look at the connect using box. Make sure the box gives the same name as the network adapter you have loaded the driver for. I'm sure that you will find the correct network adapter, but check anyway.

Then from control panel>network and internet>manage wireless networks left click and then right click on the network. Select remove network from the menu. When the warning window comes up, click yes.

On your last post, you said "pass key". The exact wording should be "network security key". I am not nit picking here. They mean two different things. What exactly does it ask for?

If all this fails, go to command prompt and type ipconfig and then press enter. Post the data under Wireless LAN adapter Wireless Network Connection: in your next reply.

It will be tomorrow before I can reply again. If you still cannot connect wirelessly, try an ethernet connection (if you have a cable). Please give the result of a wired connection if you attempt one.

    Hi tooch420,

It does not appear to be a software/driver related issue. Please share the applications that you installed in the system after re installing Windows. (Before attempting the wireless connection).

You may also try the following steps for further analysis:
    1. Optimize 'Wireless Card' settings': 'Inspiron 1750' is often shipped with Dell Wireless adapters (1397/1510/1515) or Intel Wireless adapter (5100n). Please configure the settings of the 'Wireless Card' to see if that works:
    - Right-click the 'Computer' icon on the desktop or from the 'Start menu'
    - Click 'Manage' > Click 'Device Manager' > Click the + sign to expand the 'Network Adapters' entry
    - Right-click the wireless adapter (Intel wireless or Dell wireless) and click 'Properties''
    - Click the 'Advanced' tab to configure the advanced settings
    - Select Power Management, uncheck Default / Auto, and move the slider to Highest / Maximum Performance

Use this step if Dell Wireless card is installed:
    - Bluetooth Collaboration is set as 'Enabled' by default. Please 'Disable' it.- Set value of 'Roam Tendency' as 'Aggressive'
    - Save the settings and re-check wireless performance.

You may want to refer to the following link for detailed information: Documentation

If the issue persists, please share the following for further analysis:
    - The details of wireless adapter installed in the system (To locate details, open 'Device Manager'; expand 'Network Adapters')
    - Please share the name and model number of the wireless router
    - Please share the name and model number of the modem (if present)
    - Is the 'Internet connection' a 'Cable' or 'DSL'?
    - Does the laptop connect to the internet using a 'wired connection'?
    - Try connecting your laptop to a different 'wireless network' and see if that works

Do reply if you have any further questions. I would be glad to assist.

I just want to let you all know: I have re done this laptop before with no problems with the generic driver. In past few times, when i put fresh copy of windows7 with the disk provided I connect immediately. I dont even have to load up the driver disk provided from dell.

As of now I have done it over again, formatted the partition, and loaded windows. When I first posted, THERE ARE NO PROGRAMS ON THE LAPTOP YET, NOT EVEN AN UPDATE (because no internet connection). As you probably know, durring the initial starting of windows it asks to connect to network; in the past i had no problem connecting at this point, then run windows no problem.

This time, even with no updates and programs, I cannot connect. It sees my network access point, but will not connect to it.

I have just installed MS security essentials and updated it because i wanted to search internet for the driver for wireless NIC...but thats it.

NIC is Intel WiFi Link 5100 AGN, I can connect with cable with no problems; I have Verison DSL connected to Netgear wireless N router WNR2000.

And there are no other wireless networks to test it with.

ok so, the driver and adapter match ok,

in manage wireless networks there is nothing there to delete

and it asks for a "Security Key"

I have few more posts above you should read too.

    thanks

    tooch420,

just a shot in the dark here ... In one of the original Stark Trek episodes Spock told Kirk that if all the possible has been eliminated, it was time to explore the impossible.

Because a wired connection does work, have you considered the possibility of the NIC being the culprit? I ran into one computer where I had to use a USB wireless adapter because the NIC had failed. I had originally purchased it to connect to the Internet on a friend's computer which was not wifi capable.
