    Downloads stopping on monitor sleep

Sorry if this is in the wrong section, but I think this is NIC related.

Downloads in Flashget stop when windows 7 puts my monitor to sleep. I can line up downloads in Flashget and they work fine while I'm using the PC. However as soon as the monitor is put to sleep by Windows, the downloads stop. Moving the mouse brings the monitor to life and the downloads resume - however, the usually speed drops considerably (from 800kps to around 100kps) and does not improve unless I restart.

Originally I thought this was related to scheduled downloads. I set up a scheduled, off-peak download overnight and when I got up I'd find that the downloads had failed. However, I noticed the issue was happening whenever I downloaded and left the computer for a period of time.

Power settings are all on high. Harddrive/computer sleep is off. Monitor sleep is the only thing on (15 minutes). Ethernet controller has been set to not allow the computer to turn off (unchecked).

I'm using KIS2010 which may be blocking network access somehow. But disabling KIS and setting Flashget as trusted has no effect.

Is it possible that the ethernet is being powered down somehow when the monitor sleeps? Any additional settings under the Ethernet controller/power settings I can try?

Ethernet is onboard Marvell Yukon. Latest driver from Marvell installed.

    Interesting.

Does the act of switching the monitor off (power button) have a similar effect?

Is the problem entirely limited to Flashget downloads? In other words, does other network activity outside of Flashget continue unabated while your monitor is asleep? (I'm not clear on this point - was the scheduled task you tested a Flashget operation or something else?)

Does Flashget have any logging facilities which you could enable?

Does the same symptom happen in if you test in [safe mode + net]?

It's sufficiently weird to have the monitor's power state make any difference at all (unless the NIC was a USB job plugged into the side of the monitor ), but to have it affect only a single process would be very curious indeed.

No. But I now think this is a coincidence. I think the issue is occurring when the monitors powered down but not necessarily caused by the monitor. The problem is that I have to run a scheduled download with the monitor blank to see if the problem occurs. This makes it very difficult to quickly diagnose the issue.

I haven't tried other activites. These were just downloads scheduled in Flashget. The program has its own scheduling. It is not a Windows scheduled task.

Not that i can see unfortunately.

I'm not convinced that this isn't somehow related to KIS and/or the NIC.

I've found a few posts on the Kaspersky forums regarding KIS blocking IDM (Internet Download Manager). I also dug around in the KIS settings and found a setting that blocks network traffic if there is no response to an alert. KIS will pop up an alert when it encounters a password protected archive. The alert will disappear after a few seconds but KIS may still block Flashget because I haven't responded - maybe.

I'm going to try (a) a different download manager and (b) replacing KIS - not my preference but if it works so be it.

I had the same problem with IDM.
I put IDM on the exclusion list/trusted application on KIS settings and my downloads work now. I also upgraded KIS to version 9.0.0.463 from 459.
You may have to do the same with Flashget.
